John Fawcett Contemporary Western Artists
Born in Iowa in 1952, John Fawcett has been painting professionally since 1992. He has always been interested in art and painted while in school, but has had no formal art training. Instead, Fawcett pursued his love for animals and became a veterinarian while painting as a hobby. In 1996, Fawcett shifted gears and sold his 17 year veterinary practice to paint. His knowledge of horses and dogs is evident in his detailed watercolors of today's working cowboys and their animals.
"I want to make the viewer smell the horse, hear the hoof beats, have all their senses be taken in by the painting." Fawcett has won numerous awards and was commissioned in 1992 by MacMillan McGraw Hill to illustrate a new condensed version of My Friend Flicka.
